Case Study: Delray Beach Home

Problem:

During Hurricane Andrew in 1992, The Insurance Institute figured that nearly half of homeowners in South Florida who had hurricane shutters did not have the system deployed. As a result, millions of dollars in property loss that could have been avoided only added to the overall costs of America’s most costly natural disaster. Hurricane shutters are not only expensive and time consuming to maintain, they are an unattractive addition to homes once installed affecting the architectural design of the home in a negative fashion. Homeowners concerned about the damage caused by high winds were left with little option to these unsightly and cumbersome shutters. Today, the 3M Scotchshield Ultra flex window system provides an effective 24 hour invisible defense to a South Florida reality at an affordable price for all homeowners.

Solution

The most vulnerable part of a home from high winds, driving rain and air born debris are windows. 3M company has developed the Ultra Flex window system to protect homeowners from the damaging effects of high winds and violent weather. This 3M Ultra Flex window system is a retro-fit application and this patented, micro-layer film can be applied to any existing window. 3M has tested and passed the Miami Dade Code for small missile impact for winds up to 120 mph. The film is attached to the frame of the window with a structural adhesive from Dow Corning (Dow 995) increasing the ability of the system to withstand hurricane level winds to protect your family and valuables during a windstorm. Applied directly to your windows, this 3M Ultra Flex window system comes in both clear and tinted versions for additional sun control and fade protection.
