Study
Problem
In 2000, Woodmont Golf and
Country Club of Canton was voted “Best New Course in
Georgia” by Golf Magazine. The clubhouse, built by John
Wieland Communities, is the focal point for this golf course
community and overlooks the well manicured greens and
fairways. The problem facing the property management team
was the amount of heat and glare from the sun coming through
the clubhouse windows. Each day, a good portion of the
clubhouse was getting an enormous amount of heat and
sunlight through the giant windows overlooking the practice
range making much of the clubhouse unusable. The management
team did not want to cover the windows because of the view,
but something needed to be done. John Wieland Communities
called on 3M
and Window Expert
to solve their problem.
Solution
The goals laid out by the
management team at Woodmont were simple. Maintain the view.
Cut down on the heat coming through the windows. Create a
more comfortable environment. Protect the furnishings from
fading. Window Expert Inc. installed samples to
choose from and made the recommendation to install
RE35NEARL,
3M’s
most popular sun control window film. This
3M
film has a soft, neutral,
non-reflective look, blocks out 99% of the UV light, and
rejects up to 30% of the heat coming through the glass.
Also, the large insulated glass units are now insured by
3M
for glass breakage and seal
failure. In December of 2001, the installation of 3000
square feet of RE35NEARL solar film was completed by Window
Expert Inc.’s installation team.
Results
View maintained. Fabrics and
carpets saved from premature bleaching. A busier, more
profitable clubhouse.
